Tommy Fleetwood delivered a thrilling performance at Paris 2024 but fell narrowly short of Olympic gold, finishing in second place at Le Golf National. The Team GB star, 33, had been in prime position for gold after a strong showing throughout the tournament, but ultimately finished behind the American winner in a dramatic final round.

Fleetwood, a seven-time European Tour winner, had been a standout contender throughout the event. He entered the final day just one shot off the lead, trailing behind Spain’s Jon Rahm and South Africa’s defending champion Xander Schauffele. Fleetwood’s impressive form at Le Golf National—where he previously contributed to Europe’s Ryder Cup victory in 2018 and claimed the French Open title in 2017—had earned him widespread support from the Parisian crowd.

The Merseyside golfer’s solid performance, highlighted by a seven-under-par round on Friday, had placed him in a strong position to challenge for gold. As Fleetwood navigated the final holes, he was in contention with American golfer who ultimately claimed the top spot. Despite his best efforts and the fervent backing from the home crowd, Fleetwood settled for silver.

Reflecting on the event, Fleetwood expressed his gratitude for the enthusiastic Parisian support. “The crowd has been incredible,” he said. “It’s been amazing to play in front of such passionate fans and to be part of an Olympic atmosphere. While it’s disappointing to miss out on gold, I’m proud of the way I played and grateful for the experience.”

Fleetwood’s silver medal adds to Team GB’s impressive tally at the Paris Games, following their successes in various equestrian and athletics events. Despite the final disappointment, Fleetwood’s performance underscores his remarkable talent and resilience.

As he looked back on the tournament, Fleetwood remained optimistic. “I’m very pleased with how I performed,” he added. “It’s a great feeling to finish so high up, and it’s given me plenty of motivation for future competitions.”
